Our iPhone 18 Pro review: the A20 Pro chip, variable-aperture camera, battery life, what reviewers say, and the USDT price at Techalls.

The iPhone 18 Pro is Apple's compact Pro phone for 2026. It keeps the 6.3-inch size, adds Apple's new A20 Pro chip, and brings the biggest camera hardware change in years: a main camera with a variable aperture.

This is Techalls' take, built from Apple's official specifications and published expert reviews (sources linked below). We haven't run our own lab tests, and this isn't a customer review. The aim is simple: help you decide if the iPhone 18 Pro is right for you before you buy it with crypto.

Design and display

If you've held an iPhone 17 Pro, the 18 Pro will feel familiar. The Verge notes it's so close to last year's model that it fits the same cases. Dimensions match the 17 Pro, and PhoneArena lists it at 211 g versus 206 g for the 17 Pro, calling it "a bit chunky".

The upside of the smaller Pro is comfort. PhoneArena's reviewer found it far easier to live with than the 6.9-inch Pro Max, and pointed out that Apple didn't cut camera features to make it smaller.

The 6.3-inch display has ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On, and Apple rates it at up to 3000 nits outdoors and as low as 1 nit, which helps at night.

Colours and storage

You can choose Black, Silver, Glacier or Burgundy. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 2TB, which matters if you shoot a lot of high-resolution video.

Camera: the variable aperture

This is the headline feature. The 48MP Fusion Main camera can now change its aperture, with stops at ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0. Apple also adds Pro controls in the Camera app for aperture, shutter speed, white balance and a live histogram.

What does that mean in practice?

  • Wider (ƒ/1.48): lets in more light. The Verge found low-light gains were subtle, but noted Night mode can use a slightly shorter capture time, so there's less time to hold still.
  • Narrower (ƒ/2.8 to ƒ/4.0): keeps more of a close-up subject in focus. The Verge also liked using it for sunstars on bright light sources.
  • Auto by default: Ars Technica calls manual aperture control a niche feature that many people will rarely touch, since the phone picks for you.

The rest of the system is strong too. The 4x Fusion Telephoto (100 mm) also gives 8x optical-quality zoom (200 mm), and the 48MP Ultra Wide handles macro shots. PhoneArena singled out the new Photographic Styles as one of its favourite upgrades.

Video

The main camera records 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 fps, and Cinematic mode goes up to 4K at 60 fps, per Apple's specs.

Performance and cooling

The A20 Pro is Apple's first 2nm chip, according to PhoneArena. The Verge reports a revamped thermal design that lets it hold full performance for longer, and Apple describes a vapour chamber chassis. For gaming, editing video or heavy AI features, that sustained speed is the practical win.

Battery life and charging

Apple rates the 18 Pro at up to 24 hours of typical use and up to 36 hours of video playback. In GSMArena's lab tests, it improved on every screen-on test and scored a 16:43h Active Use Score.

Charging is faster, too. Apple says it reaches up to 50% in around 15 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter. PhoneArena named faster charging as a favourite new feature. Note that the box includes a USB-C cable only, with no power adapter.

What reviewers didn't like

To be fair, the experts flagged a few things:

  • It's iterative. The Verge calls it excellent but very familiar, with no big reason to pick it over an iPhone 17 Pro unless you're a committed photographer.
  • Manual controls are small. The Verge found the on-screen exposure controls tiny.
  • Upgrade advice. PhoneArena wouldn't upgrade from an iPhone 17 Pro, but thinks iPhone 16 Pro owners and older will notice the changes.

Who should buy the iPhone 18 Pro?

Buy it if you want a Pro iPhone you can use one-handed, you're on an iPhone 16 Pro or older, or you care about low-light photos, faster charging and sustained performance.

Consider the Pro Max if you want the biggest screen and Apple's longest battery life. See the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Consider last year's model if you already have an iPhone 17 Pro. Reviewers agree the jump is small.
